On April 3, 2025, Valerie Sargeant and Rick Whittington, President and Vice President of Ruby Mountain Voices, sat down with Sandy Beeler for an interview on Backstage with Sandy Beeler on Talk Radio 107.7FM. Valerie and Rick began the interview by sharing how Ruby Mountain Voices got started. In the fall of 2024, after independently seeing a need for an adult community choir in the Elko area, both Valerie and Rick reached out to their colleagues Cat Phillips, an experienced choir director, and Connie Muir, a talented accompanist, to begin the process of forming a choir. Soon the board completed all of the necessary paperwork and planning. The choir had its first meet-and-greet in October 2024. After only eight rehearsals, the choir performed at three separate community events in December 2024.
Ruby Mountain Voices, a year-long choir composed of dedicated community members, has events scheduled throughout the year 2025. Two upcoming performances include an Easter concert on Friday, April 11, 2025 and inter-faith community concert on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Additionally, the choir has scheduled patriotic concert in July and a pop concert in September. The choir plans to perform a wide-variety of music at each concert.
Ruby Mountain Voices is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Its mission is to share the gift of music and enrich its performances with quality choral music. The choir wishes to keep all of its concerts free to the public. Thus, it relies heavily on the donations of business and individuals to help make its mission a reality. Businesses and individuals interested in donating can find more information here.
