Ruby Mountain Voices was founded in October 2024 from a desire of having a dedicated, year-round adult community choir. With a volunteer board of four members, we became a 501(c)(3) non-profit community choir within ten days of founding.
Many of our choir members grew up singing in school choirs, church choirs, college choirs, and professional choirs, but as choir members have grown older and life circumstances have changed, many of these opportunities have gone away. Their love of singing and playing music, however, has never dissipated.
Ruby Mountain Voices, as a community choir, allows its members to participate in creating music again, as opposed to being passive consumers of music. The musical experience is uplifting and reinforces a strong social message. A choir singing unitedly in perfect harmony is a kind of emblem for what we need in this world. By keeping our concerts free, we hope to reach a larger audience and uplift our community.
We look forward to performing for events and being an integral part of the Elko County community for many years to come.
“Choral music is not one of life’s frills. It’s something that goes to the very heart of our humanity, our sense of community, and our souls. You express, when you sing, your soul in song. And when you get together with a group of other singers, it becomes more than the sum of the parts. All of those people are pouring out their hearts and souls in perfect harmony, which is kind of an emblem for what we need in this world, when so much of the world is at odds with itself…that just to express, in symbolic terms, what it’s like when human beings are in harmony. That’s a lesson for our times and for all time. I profoundly believe that.”

The mission of Ruby Mountain Voices is to share the gift of music. Through song and community outreach, we educate, entertain, and enrich the quality of choral music within our performances.
